Guangyuan Qianfoya(Thousand-Buddha Cliff) Grottoes is a bright pearl on the ancient Shu Road. With great artistic value, it is called the Dunhuang Grottoes on the ancient Taurus Road and is one of the representative works of Tang Dynasty Buddhist sculpture. Due to the impact of natural environment and human factors, the statues in the Qianfoya(Thousand-Buddha Cliff) Grottoes has suffered varying degrees of damage. Recently, the preservation of Qianfoya(Thousand-Buddha Cliff) Grottoes has become increasingly worse because of the extremely serious weathering. It is very urgent to find an effective method to preserve it better. Digital art is a very popular one for the preservation of cultural relics and museums in recent years. With the characteristics of non-contact and reproducibility, it is very effective. In this study, by collecting the digital two-dimensional image of Qianfoya(Thousand-Buddha Cliff) and using computer virtualization technology, the author tries to reconstruct the two-dimensional image into three-dimensional digital model. On this basis, the paper aims at restoring and reproducing a virtual Qianfoya(Thousand-Buddha Cliff) Grottoes with the help of computer image processing technology. The use of digital art reproduction can make the preservation of Qianfoya(Thousand-Buddha Cliff) Grottoes a art last forever. To finish this study, the author has investigated the Qianfoya(Thousand-Buddha Cliff) Grottoes several times and researched both its historical origin and artistic characteristics. Also, the author has consulted a large amount of historical data of Qianfoya(Thousand-Buddha Cliff) Grottoes’ artistic characteristics so as to make a detailed analysis and conclusion. Within the study, the author has made some field investigation of Qianfoya(Thousand-Buddha Cliff) Grottoes to collect the material on the spot and measured the data information, which is furthermore edited and processed. After analyzing the related research about the digital preservation of grottoes relics at home and abroad and comparing some feasible methods for digital archaeology, the author decides to use three-dimensional reconstruction technology based on two-dimensional image to reproduce the digital art of Qianfoya(Thousand-Buddha Cliff) Grottoes. By using relevant computer simulation software, the author has made a virtual digital emulation library of Qianfoya(Thousand-Buddha Cliff). Finally, by introducing the Virtual Reality software to this study and using its powerful physical simulation characteristics, the virtual model of Qianfoya(Thousand-Buddha Cliff) is reproduced in the software. Through the study of digital art reproduction of Qianfoya(Thousand-Buddha Cliff), this paper tries to provide a specific reference example for the digitalization of other cultural relics like grottoes and shrines in our country. As can be seen from the research result, the method of digital art reproduction of Qianfoya(Thousand-Buddha Cliff) is of great significance in the digital preservation of cultural relics. At the same time, it is a very important exploration in realizing the digital reproduction of cultural relics, which provides a reference example for the digital reproduction of grotto art.
