Modern Christianity’s Social Activities And Impacts In Guanzhong Region Of Shaanxi Province

Shaanxi is located in the inland Northwest China, the modern spread of Christianity later in the eastern coastal areas, approximately around the 1870s, Christianity began to spread widely in Shaanxi Province. Among them, the Christian missionaries in each mission and Guanzhong was the late 1880s, about 1885-1887 years. Christian missionary activity in the Guanzhong area, more combined with education, health and other social and charitable activities for the development of the local community into a number of relatively advanced Western elements, to open the process of modernization of the local community has played a certain role. Based on the social and cultural context of Guanzhong Region in modern times, this thesis studies the social activities of Christianity in this region and details the introduction and development of Christianity in the local area. Chapter two makes a brief introduction about the social background and economic situation about that era when Christianity was first introduced in this place. Chapter three to five focus on the educational, medical and charitable contributions that Christianity does for the local area, then the reasons these courses are analyzed. The Christian-based mission explains the development of public welfare. Chapter six makes a summary of the features of Christian social activities carried out in the Guanzhong area. The motive of these missionaries’s public service activities is to preach their religion, however, the relatively advanced western culture exerts some positive influence on the local community to some extent.
