Study On Pottery Tools Unearthed From Prehistoric Site In Guanzhong Region

Pottery tools are involved in the pottery production process.With more and more research on pottery technology,pottery tools have not received the attention they deserve.The prehistoric period was the stage of the origin and development of pottery tools.We made a systematic study of the pottery tools unearthed from the prehistoric sites in Guanzhong regionWe first affirm the meaning of pottery tools and define the tools dedicated to pottery as typical pottery tools.The structural features of pottery pads,beats,scrapers,and polders were extracted from the ethnographic materials.Combined with relevant remains,we identified eight typical pottery tools in the prehistoric period of Guanzhong region,include pottery mats,finger covers,pottery beats,pottery wheels,pottery pedestal,pottery mould,pigment preparation tools and pottery burning bats,as well as other pottery tools,such as bone utensils,percussion instruments,polished instruments and spinning wheelsBased on the classification analysis of important pottery tools,the prehistoric pottery tools in Guanzhong region were divided into three stages:the embryonic stage,the developing stage and the mature stage,corresponding to the Laoguantai culture period,the Yangshao culture period and the Longshan Culture period respectively.According to the characteristics of the pottery unearthed at the same period in this region,it is concluded that the pottery making techniques and the development of pottery patterns directly promoted the emergence and development of pottery toolsAt last,a series of experiments are carried out to determine the functions of tools whose names are controversial and functions are not clear,including pottery pads,finger covers,ceramic beats,bone utensils and polisher,etc.On the basis of previous studies and combined with ethnological investigation,we analyzed the functions of pottery wheel,pottery pedestal and spinning wheel.
