Specific Negative Moods And The Presence Of Others Impact On Effect Of Prototype Elicitation During Insight Problem Solving

In recent years,the impact of mood on creative thinking has become a hot issue in psychology,but the results of researches are obviously different, thereinto,the positive impact of positive mood on creativity has reached a consensus at home and abroad.However,the impact of negative mood is till widely controversial,especially in China, very few relevant reaches are aim at the negative mood,and the results are also multifarious.Along with the new research progress of creative thinking,insight has been regarded as the creative thinking that can be observed in a laboratory condition,then prototype elicitation might be the essence of insight,and it also has a high ecological validity, studying the impact of mood on effect of prototype elicitation during insight problem solving has been a new direction for researchers,however,but the recent results are quite inconsistent.Meanwhile,with the rise of creativity study’s social psychology approach, researchers have realized that only combine the individual level and the social environment level can accurately reveal the influence of creative thinking.According to our meta-analysis,we find that the obvious limitations of present researches such as mood variable、environment variable or experimental paradigm give rise to.the differences of related research conclusions.In order to overcome these limitations,our study intends to continue to regard prototype elicitation as an effective form of creative thinking, specializes in the relationship between specific negative moods and creativity thinking,hope to make up for the inadequacies of existing researches,and also break up the stereotyped image that only positive mood can promote creativity thinking,looking forward to getting a more stable and ecological conclusion.In the first experiment,we try to use subjective report and physiological response indexes to synthetically explore the validity (including intensity, purity and duration) of 4 different moods (happiness, excitement, sadness and fear), which are respectively induced by 4 widely used MIPs (Picture MIP, Music MIP, Film MIP and Autobiographical Recollection MIP).The conclusions are as follows:(1) In general, music MIP turns out to induce the highest level of mood intensity, while picture MIP induces the lowest one. For the positive mood, music MIP induces a higher level of mood intensity, while picture MIP induces a lower one; For the negative mood, Autobiographical Recollection MIP induces a higher level of mood intensity, while music MIP induces a lower one. (2) Music MIP turns out to induce a higher level of mood purity, while picture MIP induces a lower one. (3) The durations of the moods vary in accordance with different levels of valence and arousal:the duration of happiness is nearly 1 minute, the duration of excitement is 2 minutes and 30 seconds, the duration of sadness is 1 minute and 30 seconds, and the duration of fear is 2 minutes.Based on the inclusions of the first experiment,the experimental procedure has adjust in our second experiment.We combined Autobiographical Recollection MIP and Music MIP,then arranged the quantity of traditional Chinese logogriphs through the mood duration,to explore that specific negative moods and the presence of others impact on effect of prototype elicitation during insight problem solving.These results show that,(1) Without mood arousal,there haven’t significant differences among the moods, however,with mood arousal, low arousal level of fear can promote insight problem solving,the accuracy of high arousal level of sadness is obviously better than the lower one; (2)the specific negative emotions and the presence of others has a interaction effect on insight problem solving, specifically, for high arousal level of fear, the presence of others has a positive effect on insight problem solving, but for low arousal level of fear, the presence of others has the negative effect.
