In the year of 940,at the court of the kingdom of shu, a group of literati complied an anthology of song lyrics written by ninth-and-tenth-century poets, which is the earliest extant collection of song lyrics, named Huajian ji. It attracted much attention from writers, choosers and critics of every generation, during the 1000 years since its publish, specialists and scholars of generations had developed broad research and obtained remarkable achievements. The more attracts attention from people is that research on Huajian Ji has not only aroused research upsurge in China, but also attracted universal attention from Sinology circle in North America. This paper uses research data of Huajian Ji of Sinology in North America as base, and uses representative works of Professor Anna Shields, 《Crafting a Collection:The Cultural Contexts and Poetic Practice of the Huajian ji (Collection from among the Flowers)^ as research center. By rearranging and analyzing the research outcome of Huajian ji in Sinology circle of North America, I expected to provide reference for further research, in addition, I also expected to bring new research perspective and research method for Hujian Ji research in China. This paper mainly makes systematic arrangement and analysis on research outcome of Huajian Ji in Sinology circle of North America from the following 2 aspects. The first part starts from micro perspective and makes introduction and arrangement on research outcome of Huajian Ji in western Sinology; I expect to take a furtive glance at its research angle, research characteristic and research center. The second part not only introduces Professor Anna Shields but also analyses her research outcome——《Crafting a Collection:The Cultural Contexts and Poetic Practice of the Huajian ji (Collection from among the Flowers)》.It also points out its research direction and research outcome have some similarities with other Sinologists in North America, especially her teacher——Stefen Owen. I will make research and discussion from 3 aspects in this chapter.Firstly, I introduce the life story and research outcome of Professor Anna Shields, the writer of 《Crafting a Collection:The Cultural Contexts and Poetic Practice of the Huajian ji (Collection from among the Flowers》Secondly, I use the book ((Crafting a Collection:The Cultural Contexts and Poetic Practice of the Huajian ji (Collection from among the Flowers)》 as research center, develop systematic research and analysis, so I can find out the difference and similarity of research perspective and research method by Sinology in North America and scholars in China, discarding the dross and selecting the essence, I expect to inject new blood into research on Hujian Ji.In addition, in this chapter I make analysis and research on the condition of English translation of Huajian Ji by Professor Anna Shields. Except that the unique allusion, cultural images and rules of classical poetic composition in ancient Chinese literature bring challenge to English translation, song lyrics is regarded as one of unique literature style and it presents different literature forms with poetry and other literary genre in the world, its length of sentence structure has become to be the characteristics that can not be ignored in English translation work. This section makes case analysis on English translation of Huajian Ji by Professor Anna Shields, so I can master the skills of Huajian Ji in English translation and the shortages in its English translation. Professor Anna Shields is loyal to the word of Huajian Ji, she makes English translation word for word and she also emphasizes on reflecting the song lyrics of original text through sentence length of text translation, so that it can possibly restore the form characteristic of long-and-short sentence, but the rhythm condition on song lyrics has no expression during English translation by Professor Anna Shields is so pity.
