Louis Moreau Gottschalk (1829-1869) as an early American musician and pianist, He was bring the American folk music to European.This thesis is to study the works of the Gottschalk’s piano work in romantic characteristics and national style.The Romantic characteristics in the study, the main selection is Gottschalk’s two piano dittys which was popular in his playing life "Dying Poet "and" The Last Hope ", combining humanities background characteristics of works to analyze the romantic characteristics; In the study of national writing style, mainly the has chosen Creole folk music featuring two piano works "Banjo" and "banana", through musical analysis and a preliminary understanding of the Creole folk music, it is a reflection that Creole folk music used to vividly in Gottschalk national piano works, Gottschalk not use Creole folk music, but also draws on folk songs and dance music of the Caribbean region, Cuba’sand other South American folk folk music.By analyzing with Gottschalk music works and combining political, cultural background works of the era,To discusses Gottschalk’s music has the characteristics of the Romantic music, national character, but also to make a significant impact on the development of American professional music.
