On Characteristics And Performance Of Gottschalk's Piano Pieces

Louis Moreau Gottschalk(May,1829 to December,1869)is the early American musician and pianist first with world reputation,who is one of the pioneers introducing the native American music elements into in music creation.This paper studies the two representative piano works,and make a certain amount of exploration and introduction of the style and performance of Gottschalk works.This paper is divided into four parts to discuss the characteristics of Gottschalk's piano music styles and interpretations.The first part mainly introduces the development process of Gottschalk's historical background and American music,his music creation and learning;The second part selects the piano masterpiece "Souvenir de Porto Rico" as the research object.It makes a detailed study on the unique American national style characteristics of the Gottschalk music creation from these three aspects: the humanistic background,the musical structure and the performance of the works.The third part selects the representative works of Gottschalk "Souvenirs d'andalousie" in the other creative period as the starting point,using the same research method to make a deep exploration and analysis on the use of various ethnic elements and the rich musical style in his creations.And it also has a more comprehensive understanding of the musical style and performance interpretation of his piano works.In the fourth part,based on the careful analysis of the two pieces,it makes a further comparison and summary of two pieces,drawn with the Gottschalk piano works in three typical creative features: romantic characteristics,national characteristics and features of patriotism.From the point of view of teaching performance through the works of Gottschalk analysis,combined with a certain style of playing,it reveals his emotional expressions in music.
