This translation report chooses Texasville —the work of Larry Mc Murtry(a popular re-presenter of post-war America western novels)as the material. It is a novel with 98 chapters,a representative novel with special western characters. The novel mainly describes the muddled state of life of the people in Texas town when suffered in the oil crisis and faced up the currency inflation and economic depression.The translator chooses chapter 32-37 as the practice material. These chapters reflect people’s fear and the turbulence of the society under the influence of oil crisis, echoing the characters according to the daily life. In the report, the first chapter mainly introduces the novel and its author. The second chapter describes the preparation of the translation. The third chapter is the key part, mainly analyses some proper nouns, local idioms and other general phrase, dialogues and the cohesion and coherence of the discourse. The last chapter mainly summarizes the problem and the study results, the shortage and enlightenment.Through the analysis of the translation of the text, the report mainly draws the following conclusions. In a word,when translating this kind of characteristic literature work, the translator need take the characteristics and identity of the figure into consideration and learn some relevant background knowledge. When dealing with the words and sentences, it is essential to consider more about the language of the characters and culture backgrounds and to select the words that are in conformity to the characteristics of the figure. In the aspects of discourse, the translator should seize the related cohesion and coherence between the context, considering the layout on the basis of the context.
