A Study About "You+Noun Phrase+Verb Phrase" In Chinese

Many linguists have widely studied about "You" sentence since lots of years ago. This paper wants to discuss about a special structure "You +Noun Phrase + Verb Phrase" which arose divarications among some scholars in "You" sentence. These scholars offer their own points and form their own theories to expatiate "You+Noun Phrase+Verb Phrase" when they study the structure. But there are some shortages in their theories. The author wants to investigate its syntactic constituents, semantic relationships and pragmatic values, and analyze the shortages of the scholars' theories. On the basis of the investigation and the analysis, the author brings forward the theory of object complement to show its rationality and advantages explaining the structure. This paper consists of five main parts besides a preface and an epilogue.First, we investigate the syntactic constituents of the structure which we expresses "A+You+B+C" . A acts as a noun, a noun phrase, a pronoun, a "De" phrase, a word of location, a location phrase or a temporal word. Sometimes A is zero constituent. B stands for a noun, a noun phrase, a pronoun, a "De" phrase, a quantitative phase or a temporal word. In terms of C, we divide it for two categories, bare-verb and none bare-verb. Not all bare-verbs can be C.Second, we investigate the semantic relationships among all the constituents. We analyse the semantic relationships between A and B, B and C, C and A, and the semantic relationships among A, B and C. So we can ignore the differences between the relationships of A and B and make them discussed in a semantic frame-saw.Third, the transformation between "You+Noun Phrase+Verb Phrase" and "You+Verb Phrase+De+Noun Phrase" can reveal the pragmatic values of the sentence. It can make the rhythm better and clearer, contain generalized- tense verb phrases and kinds of tenses of the simple-tense and focus on its verb phrase.Fourth, the four main views, which are the theory of complicated predicate, thetheory of post-attribute, the theory of serial verb or of the V-O and S-P structure and the theory of complement, are analysed .We find out their shortages and think the last one enlightens us.Fifth, we give examples of "You +Noun Phrase + Verb Phrase" in ancient Chinese to show the fact it has been in Chinese since long years ago. And we compare its verb phrase with object complement in English' to show the resemblances between them in function. So the rational of the theory of object complement is proved. And we believe it plays an important and active role in information processing techniques.In the end, the author hopes that the theory of object complement put forward by analysing "You +Noun Phrase + Verb Phrase" can promote the study of basic constituents in Chinese and the constitution of Chinese grammatical system and supply a easy way for information processing techniques.
