Double-clues structure is a common and specific pattern in the legendary drama of Ming and Qing dynasty. It had been formed in southern-China drama. From Three Great legends in mid-Ming dynasty to “Four Dream in Linchuan” and legendary dramas of Wujiang school and Suzhou school, and then all the way to Palace of Eternal Life and The Peach Blossom Fan in Qing dynasty, double-clues structure had been changed from complicated transformation to continuous deepening. Profound origin of thought and culture can be seen in the process of double-clues structure modeled in legendary drama, in which traditional thought mode of binary opposition had restricted it potentially. The formation of double-clues structure was influenced by narrative tradition and oral art of history literature to some extent.Double-clues narration in legendary contains significant values of theatre studies. From the narrative angle, the application of double-clues structure plays a specific role in the conflicts of drama: with the help of double-clues structure, Ming and Qing legendary dramas absorb richer stories and plots to strengthen the dramatic conflicts; correspondent dramatic scenes have formed with same time and different spaces; these dramatic scenes intersect with each other to reflect dramatic conflicts; positive and negative characters appear in the clues simultaneously, which helps to intensify the conflicts. From the perspective of stylistics, double-clues structure can conform to the stylistic requirements of great novels compared with single-clue structure: it enables novels to exploit the advantages of narration to the full, reflecting colorful social life; it balances narrative clues and plot capacity so that clear and fluent narration method may contain plots that is as complicated as possible; in the pattern of double-lines structure, scholars pay attention to the organization of scenes and foreshadows in the plot. Double-clues structure makes the pattern of Ming and Qing legendary drama more exquisite, catering to the aesthetic taste and expecting view of scholars.
