This study is on N-M Nouns of Mandarin such as "CheLiang, MaPi, HuaDuo" etc. We used the methods of Corpus linguistics to get statistical data and analyze N-M Nouns by comparing to monosyllable bare noun. The main contents are as follows:Chapter one is a brief introduction of the theoretical background, including definition, construction, features and origins.Chapter two is my definition for N-M Nouns, including two standards and 6 examples to start our research.Chapter three is about the prosodic features of N-M Nouns. By replacing them with monosyllable nouns, we discoverd that two general prosodic rules may have effect on the replacement process:one is consistency principle and the other is trisyllable combination law.Chapter four is about the semantic features of N-M Nouns. We disproved the standpoint that N-M Nouns can only be used as generic terms and proved that they can also be used as individuals and plural terms. We also found out two other semantic features of N-M Nouns:one is the provisionality and the other is the meaning reduction.Chapter five is about the syntactic features of N-M Nouns. We compared N-M Nouns to monosyllable nouns and found some tendentious resaults which can be explained by prosodic and semantic rules. We also observed the collocation of N-M Nouns and measure words and proved that N-M Nouns can be modified by individual measure words.Chapter six is the theoretical conclusion. We applied the features to the less tipical N-M Nouns and got a word list containing 75 N-M Nouns. We regarded N-M Nouns as Terivatives...
