This thesis aims at studying the design of elementary oral Chinese achievement test. Achievement test is an essential part of spoken Chinese teaching and also an effective way in checking teaching results. The purposes of achievement test are to examine students’ learning results, whether students have mastered the required knowledge in this period, and to check students’ Chinese speaking abilities during this time. Studying an effective oral Chinese achievement test attaches much significance to find deficiencies in teaching Chinese speaking. It can improve teachers’ teaching abilities, and help students find leaking and mistakes in learning. It also has great meaning on the compilation of teaching materials and syllabuses. Thus it is very important to study the design of elementary oral Chinese achievement test. It not only riches language test theories, but also guides the teaching of Chinese speaking course.On base of previous researches, the author talks about the elementary oral Chinese achievement test and give an example of the test. First of all, the thesis defines the oral achievement test and introduces the principles of having a test and how to evaluate a test. Secondly, the thesis analyzes the problems in achievement tests by researching the current situation about the elementary oral Chinese achievement tests. Thirdly, the paper talks about all the aspects of elementary oral Chinese test specifically. They include the mode, the content, types, the standard and manner for evaluation, the preparation, the process of test and so on. Lastly, on basis of researches and above analysis, using short-term spoken Chinese as an example, the thesis gives a design of the elementary oral Chinese achievement test, including how to decide the test forms and questions, how to carry out the test, and how to give points. After putting the design into practice, the paper gives a self-examination.By analyzing the results, the thesis concludes a proper design. It concludes that reading aloud, answer teachers’ questions, topic expression and conversation, by giving students an interview can examine students’ learning preferably. Making a unified and detailed evaluation standard, using item analytic method mainly and comprehensive scoring method in subsidiary, standardizing the procedures of examination, helping students review and giving them a training, they all help ensure the reliability and validity of the test. Analyzing the test result is important for teaching process as well. In this thesis, quantitative analysis method, interview, analytic method, documentation and comparison method are used. It is hoped that this thesis will help Chinese language teaching and testing.
