The scenic spot translation refers to translating the text of the introduction of the scenic spot, which is an important part of foreign publicity with two functions:information transmission and induction effort. This thesis is a translation report on the text translation, modified and analyzed under the theory of translation error. On the basis of investigating a lot of scenic spot introduction translations, the report discusses the phenomenon of translation error and application of this theory in scenic spot introductions.With China’s further opening up, foreign tourism is booming and translation of introduction of attractions from Chinese into English has been an crucial way for foreigners to learn about China. However, it’s not optimistic to examine the quality of translation in national scenic spots. There are some main mistakes including cultural misunderstanding, expressional encumbrance, Chinglish, wrong usage of the word, grammatical mistakes and so on. At the moment, most research findings concentrate on the summary of translation practices without any practical directions. Combined with the my edition of the introduction translation of the Humble Administrator’s Garden, this report discusses the context of the Nord’s theory of translation error and classifies the examples from the perspectives of linguistic translation error, cultural translation error and pragmatic translation error. After analysis of the materials, this report concludes three reasons which cause translation errors: grammatical or format mistakes, cultural difference between China and western countries and ignorance of the receiver or purpose. Thus, the author puts forward three methods to control the translation quality:accurate expression, consideration of culture and emphasis of the receiver or purpose. Hopefully, this report can help improve the quality of the scenic spot introduction translation in China. |
