After cultural turn, translation study is embarking on a development path of diversity and the importance of the translator is highlighted. Under this circumstance, Hu Gengshen puts forward the Approach to Translation as Adaptation and Selection inspired by Darwin’s Theory of Biological Evolution. Translation is defined as "a translator’s adaptation and selection activities in a translational eco-environment". The corresponding translation method is "three dimensional transformation".In this paper, Goldblatt’s translation of Big Breasts and Wide Hips is investigated from the Approach to Translation as Adaptation and Selection. His selective adaptations and adaptive selections are studied in detail. Goldblatt’s transformations in three dimensions are the focus. WordSmith 6.0 is used in linguistic dimension for data analysis while cases study in cultural and communicative dimension. The result shows that Goldblatt’s translation has realized the transformation in three dimensions. In linguistic dimension, Goldblatt transferred both the language meanings and writing styles of the author. In cultural dimension, Goldblatt combined domestication and foreignization to make the translation easily accepted by target readers. In communicative dimension, Goldblatt achieved the communicative purpose by adding words and splitting complicated sentences into simple ones. The enhanced readability by three dimensional transformations makes the translation version well accepted and welcomed. It shows the survival of the fittest in translation field. This paper analyzes Goldblatt’s Big Breasts & Wide Hips in the framework of the approach, and on the other hand it also verifies the the approach’s feasibility in guiding translation practice.
