Due to the phenomenon of the cultural turn in the 20th century, the translator's cultural identity plays an important role in his/her translation studies.Because translators have to face cultural differences between nations during the translation process, when they deal with the transmission of the cross-culture information,it will inevitably encounter the cultural misreading, cultural mistranslation, information distortion or addition to the original text.Translators pursue subjectively fidelity to the original in their translation versions. There must be the disparity between the original and the translated text, and this disparity relates to translator's cultural identity.Based on this, the thesis mainly discusses the great influences of the translator's cultural identity on his/her translation works through a detailed analysis and exploitation of the novel Big Breasts&Wild Hips translated by the American translator Howard Goldblatt. In this thesis, the introduction of the great important theoretical concept of"Cultural Identity" is made firstly, and then the relationship between Howard Goldblatt's Cultural Identity and his translation is clarified. The focus of analysis is the devices which are used in Howard Goldblatt's translation version of Big Breasts&Wild Hips. The main research method is comparative analysis.Through comparing Big Breasts&Wild Hips written by Mo Yan and the translated version written by Howard Goldblatt,a small-size corpus of 238 pairs was selected, then based on Goldblatt's translation thoughts to analyze these collecting corpus. The purpose of the study is how Goldblatt's translation thoughts make the inevitable influence on his selection of translating strategies and how his cultural identity affects his translation thoughts and translation version. The research finds that the first,in translating,Goldblatt adopts addition, omission, amendment, foreignization and domestication in order to make the target language readers understand the same meaning expressed in the source language by Mo Yan,because of the differences in English and Chinese words and expressions.Secondly, although Goldblatt is so successful in translating Chinese works, there are some mistranslations in his versions. He omitted some essential specific words and expressions with cultural-bound images which have a complicated historic background. From the research we can find that a translator should realize the importance of translator's cultural identity in order to construct and develop a new translation theoretical system.
