This is a project report on the translation of Quantitative Corpus Linguistics with R, which is the first book with a systematic introduction to the application of R into corpus lingustics research. The translator chooses Chapter Five of this book to translate, that is "Some Statistics for Corpus Linguistics". Some fundamental concepts of statistics and some frequently-used hypothesis tests are discussed in this chapter.Quantitative Corpus Linguistics with R belongs to technical texts. As an important English text style, technical text has its own characteristics. In terms of vocabulary, it is characterized with large number of technical terms, derivative words, abbreviations and so on. In terms of syntax, it is characterized with large number of passive construction, non-finite verbal forms, nominalization and so on. Technical English is aimed at transferring and exchanging scientific and technological information. So the translator chooses Katharina Reiss’theory of Text Typology as the theoretical guidance. Under the guidance of Text Typology and according to the translation requirements of informative text, the translator solved all the difficult issues by flexibly using various translation methods such as omission, inversion and so on.During this translation project, the translator realized that appropriate theoretical guidance, suitable translation strategies and a good command of both of the two languages are all of crucial importance in translation.
