In many European and American developed countries, social work enjoys a close connection with religion. People in the field of social work almost have faith in some religion. Religious organizations take responsibilities for helping the poor and saving the weak. After the policy of reform and opening, society began to take quick transformations and meanwhile, social contradictions have been increasingly aggravating with the rapid development of politics, economy and culture. Hence, it is a great need to develop charity and improve social work to solve the actual problems of social life.An old saying goes:Every one of us should be merciful to everything, helping those who are suffering from pains. Buddhism, with the conception of Being Merciful, has been instructing people in the world to show mercy to people around and love them for thousands of years. It is the conception that highly generalizes China’s Buddhism charity participating in social work. With the implementation and practice of policy of freedom of religion belief, China’s Buddhism organizations and Buddhism charity activities are on the way. However, China’s social work is getting off the ground, having a limited assistance on charity. Currently, China’s Buddhism charity participating in social work generally at a level of self-construction, which is not regarded as a formal part of social charity. Buddhism charity touches upon the social work in a narrow way, that is to say, providing traditional charity service and maintaining a relatively low-level service mode. So here comes the question:how do the Buddhism organizations fully play a role in social work to actively participate in social work and push a combination between Buddhism charity and current social work? The dissertation, in a angle of Buddhism charity participating in social work, based on Buddhism charity current conditions, with the methods of questionnaire and interview, comprehensively uses field work, literature review and statistics, etc. to carry out researches on the relationship between Buddhism charity and social work as well as make some thoughts on the existing problems and explore solutions.
