The identity problem of college students has been the focus of scholars in related domains. Identity fusion is a unique form of alignment with a group which entails a visceral feeling of oneness with the group, characterized by the permeable borders between the personal and social identities. Some achievements have been made in foreign countries. These porous borders encourage people to channel their personal agency into group behavior, raising the possibility that the personal and social self will combine synergistically to motivate pro-group behavior. Research on identity fusion abroad mainly concentrated in comparison with group identification and the relationships with pro-group behaviors, especially extreme behaviors(like fight and dead), or some positive pro-group behaviors(like help and donation).Stereotype threat is a common situational threat, which has become a hot point in social psychology through last ten years. As long as the negative stereotypes clues or information appears, people will feel the stereotype threat, and make a poor performance, which confirms the existence of stereotype threat. Research about identity fusion and stereotype threat mainly focus on the different sources of stereotype threats as activated conditions of personal identity.Whether the stereotype threat or identity fusion research, cultural environment is very important, especially the differences between Chinese and western culture, many foreign researches may not be suitable. China is a collectivist culture dominant country, which emphasis on groups, organizations. So local researches are very necessary and urgent.Based on identity fusion theory, social identity theory and stereotype threat theory, using college students especially rural students, the present research fully discusses the definitions of identity fusion, identification, stereotype threat, and pro-group behavior. Using questionnaires and experimental method, within stereotype threat, the relationship between identity fusion and pro-group behavior were studied. The study attempts to form significative measurements, and find believable and available results. The results of the present study indicate:(1) Rural college students is a very special community, their identities is not a stable state. Generally most of the rural college students have double identities.(2) Identity fusion and identification both have good predictions on pro-group behaviors. But identification is better than identity fusion.(3)When facing identical stereotype threat, there are significant differences on pro-group behavior willings between fusion and non-fusion. Identity fusion is also a coping strategy on stereotype threat.
