This is a translation project report on Money Market Operations in 2013. It is a research and report paper on money market operations by the Financial Markets Department of the Bank of Japan and it is published on the official website of the bank. The report briefs us about Japan’s money market operations with concrete figures and concise structure, providing us a sight into the circumstance of Japan’s economy. The project report first gives the background information of choosing this topic: Money Market Operations in Fiscal 2013, including reasons for the topic selection, significance and objectives. Then the project report analyzes the source text and presents the difficulties and solutions for translating the text, including the structure and content analysis of the original text. The guiding translation theory for this translation is functional equivalence advanced by Eugene Nida, who divides the functional equivalence into formal equivalence and dynamic functional equivalence. Translation is to convert one language into another of equivalence with the most fitting and natural words and semantics so that the receivers of the translation acquire the roughly same information. The writer had always sought to convey the meaning, thought, and style of the source text with accuracy on the basis of fully understanding it.The source text is official in its use of words and style with frequent employment of professional terms. Therefore, the writer employed the translation methods of sentence split and restructure, omissions, and literal translation. To accomplish a qualified translation, translators must have a good command of both the source and the target languages. That requires every foreign language learner attach great importance to the constant learning of his mother tongue as well as the foreign language.
