Antonio López García, as a Realism painter, he becomes a representative in Western countries for his outstanding performance on painting, honest personality, unique eye view and tireless pursuit of art. His works are quiet with vitality, deeply with tension and thoroughly deep. He poured into the true feelings to every piece of his work, each painting theme he selected, and also showed all his profound understanding, unique interpretation and respect on all objects he expressed. Undoubtedly, all these owing to his accumulate outstanding artistic accomplishment for many years. What’s more, his solid realistic capability, techniques and creativity in art contribute to his motivation to show his inner world on art.López’s works mainly describe his individual world, which not only include his close family, living surroundings and also ordinary yet essential life quality and exceedingly fascinating and charming city. These common things, in the eyes of others are small, but in his, these are the things which can inspire his creative inspiration. He works hard every day and he expresses his feelings from his works. Appreciating Lopez’s painting is a visual enjoyment, we will become calm while shocked by his painting. Meanwhile, he was also a sculptor worthy of the name. In his process of painting, he captured the things which are changeful and quickly passing. The visual impression he expressed on canvas makes the painting a strong sense of reality and deep calm, which give people a reachless mystery. In this complicated society, such a quiet and independent work always gives us a heart feeling of lost for words.This thesis can be divided into 4 chapters, the first two chapters mainly describes Lopez’s lifetime and shift his artistic style. On Jan. 6, 1936, when Spanish civil war was broke out, Lopez was born in Ciudad Real, Tomelloso. His parents are farmers, so they don’t have much money. At that time the situation was bad with the outbreak of war, Lopez still insist on painting, which was s unusual at the time. Influenced by age and environment, Lopez’s work style roughly has four phases, namely, performance stage around 1955, surreal phase in late 50 s, natural phase in 60 s and return to original nature in 70 s. From his works, we can clearly see his inheritance and breakthrough on Spanish arts. The third chapter mainly describes from four aspects, namely, Lopez’s understanding of light, space, time and picture color on painting, distribution of spatial layout, combination of multiple points of view, painting techniques and the diversity of manifestation forms. From which, we can find Lopez’s personal emotional input in paintings, mysteries of his works, and immutability of time he expressed.From analysis and understanding of above chapters, we can comprehensively understand the art world of Lopez and the deep meaning of art works, which give me great influence and enlightenment for my painting career, these are described in the fourth chapter. After some research and analysis on Lopez’s works, we can see that realism and figurative painting is still alive, they still have extensive vitality, and traditional painting is still unshakable. So, we can find study direction of western painting so as to find our own development and direction, which can be beneficial enlightenment. As a student who is engaged in the study of oil painting, Lopez indeed influenced a lot, not only from attitude on art, but also from artistic techniques and forms.
