| Antonio Lopez Garcia, one of the representational realism masters in20-21century’s Spain, is gradually acknowledged by the world as a Spanish realism artist. In his more than50years’art career, Lopez insisted on taking pure private space as his painting theme. His devotion in his works reflected his individual spirit and love for life, and the supercilious attitude in his works conveyed a pervasive art quality. Lopez and his fine arts showed us a whole new realism art.This article attempts to start from the whole Spanish background, studies the formation and transformation of Lopez’s art style in this historical period. Also analyzes the profound impact of Spanish historical culture and realism on his artistic creation, and the spirit of the time on change of his life. Besides, through the analysis of his works, this paper intends to find out the close relationship between Lopez’s realism and modern art. In addition, the profound analysis into his works functions to investigate the close relationship between his realism and the modern artistic concepts. The paper is conducted around the living environment and age of himself and his artistic characteristics and mainly focuses on the variation of the artistic style of Lopez in pursuit of the better interpretation on his artistic features, skills and personal emotions embedded in his works. The themes of most of his painting are exactly about his familiar scenes and his friends and family members. Yet, these ordinary themes are capable of reflecting his inheritance of classical realism in Spanish oil painting area. Lopez himself ever experienced four different artistic stages:the "Expression" style around1955; the magical and unimaginable style influenced by "surrealism" from1956to1965; the implicit and steady style after1965; and the style that returned to his original painting pattern after1970s and1980s. These artistic features all demonstrate Lopez’s attitudes, ideas and imagination over private space, private sentiments and the variation of surrounding environment. The expression of these privatized sentiments and the characteristic images are not based on some specific themes and social customs, but embraced thoughts to address the social problems aroused in the age. |
