Fengxiang, which is the culture birthplace of Zhou Dynasty, capital of Spring and Autumn and Warring States period, has a strong historical and cultural accumulation, and is an evidence of the long history of the strong basis of Fengxiang folk arts. Spring Festival xylograph pictures in Fengxiang has five hundred years history, and it is still developing. It has large number of domestic and foreign "fans", because of its rough and exaggerated characters, bright and festive colors, and its auspicious, fortune and other artistic characteristics. Foreign collectors treat Spring Festival xylograph pictures in Fengxiang as "the crystallization of the wisdom in the East,” which leads to the choice of auspicious figure pattern of Spring Festival xylograph pictures in Fengxiang as the research topic.Through site visiting, surveys on Spring Festival xylograph pictures, literature review, interview, and research on Spring Festival paintings pictures’ themes and combination types, the expressions of auspicious culture pattern characters are summarized.First, there is a brief overview of the characteristic process and the development of Spring Festival xylograph pictures in Fengxiang; and there is an analysis of auspicious concept of Spring Festival xylograph pictures in Fengxiang under the feeding of Chinese traditional culture and northwest folk culture, stressing the outstanding performance "auspicious" emotional sustenance of patterns’ character.Secondly, using semiotic method to collate traditional visual language symbol characters in Spring Festival paintings in Fengxiang, and focusing on the analysis of the use of four traditional character patterns categories, which are force officer figures in Spring Festival xylograph pictures in Fengxiang(Fang Bi and Fang Xang, Qin Qiong and Jing De,etc.)(day official, scholar Lang), fiction characters(Zhong Kui, Zhang Xian,etc.), ordinary people(a woman, the boy, etc.). There is a brief analysis of the new theme of figure design in the late 1950 s, focusing on expressing the auspicious concept based Spring Festival xylograph pictures works; Exploring the patterns of representation of the characters, and summarizing the rules of art form by quantitative analyzing the geometric structure, general character of color, and artistic features of auspicious patterns.Finally, through the summary of Spring Festival xylograph pictures in Fengxiang, which conveys the meaning of auspicious patterns with characters of the artistic features, we can get the cultural connotation and regional features of Spring Festival xylograph pictures in Fengxiang character pattern shape features; through comparative analysis of the theme identity of Spring Festival pictures in Fengxiang and Spring Festival paintings from other areas, we can get further understanding of Spring Festival auspicious patterns and other features characters. Research of the auspicious figures aims to help protect the spreading of Spring Festival xylograph pictures in Fengxiang, and provides a reference for the creation of modern national characteristic elements.
