In the field of psychology, the relationship between residential mobility and the individual subjective well-being is a hotspot in the current research. But in China there is less research focusing on this relationship, especially the role of the personal self-esteem and collective self-esteem in this process. Following the rapid development of Chinese society, more and more people move their residence, forming the residential mobility life style. Foreign research has shown that residential mobility has a significant effect on the individual subjective well-being, and internal research is proved that the rural migrant workers’and the migrated children’s residential mobility influence on their subjective well-being, and no empirical studies have shown that the common person, such as college students, employees, civil servants group, their residential mobility is the impact of subjective well-being. Against this back-ground, this paper combed the related theory and existing research, from the perspective of personal self-esteem and collective self-esteem to understand the relationship between residential mobility and subjective well-being.In the literature review part, the related theory and the existing research were summarized, the main flow is combing the residential mobility, personal self-esteem, collective self-esteem, subjective well-being and the relationship between their’ research, after comprehensive analysis, put forward the overall plan of the paper. Residential mobility has significant negative correlation with individual subjective well-being. But through the literature review and field interviews we found that not all the frequently residential mobility has the low level of subjective well-being, not all the residential steadily has the higher level of subjective well-being. Obviously, the relationship between residential mobility and subjective well-being may affects by other factors, like mediation variables or moderator variables. This article looks at the relationship between residential mobility and subjective well-being, and the role of the personal self-esteem and collective self-esteem in this process.In the experiment part, study1 using the experiment method to control different situations of residential mobility, the participants are randomly divided into 3 groups, respectively frequently residential mobility group, residential steadily group, and control group, asking the frequently residential mobility group people to read the imagining the future residential mobility life style scenario data, asking the residential steadily group people to read the imagining the future residential steadily life style scenario data, asking the control group people to read the imagining a typical future day’s life style scenario data. Residence Mobility Questionnaire, Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale, Collective Self-esteem Scale and Well-being Index Scale to measure the participants, in order to find in the experiment scenario, the relation between residential mobility and subjective well-being, and the role of the personal self-esteem and collective self-esteem in this process. The study2 we use the method of questionnaire survey, in Chinese cultural background, what the relationship between residential mobility, personal self-esteem, collective self-esteem and the subjective well-being. And we want to verify whether the result of study2 as the same of the result of study 1.Through the above of two studies, the results show that:(1) Subjective well-being level in gender, age, level of education, income level, there is no significant difference.(2)Residential mobility significantly negative correlation with subjective well-being, significantly positive correlation with personal self-esteem, and collective self-esteem are not associated with significant, personal self-esteem and collective self-esteem, personal self-esteem and subjective well-being, collective self-esteem and subjective well-being are related significantly.(3)Residential mobility significantly effect on the subjective well-being, personal self-esteem is significant effect on the subjective well-being, personal self-esteem interaction in residential mobility significantly effect on subjective well-being.(4)Residential mobility significantly effect on the subjective well-being, collective self-esteem is significant effect on the subjective well-being, collective self-esteem interaction in residential mobility significantly effect on subjective well-being.(5)Personal self-esteem plays a mediation or moderation role in the relationship between residential mobility and subjective well-being.(6) Collective self-esteem doesn’t play a mediation nor a moderation role in the relationship between residential mobility and subjective well-being.
