Chick flick is a new type of film that bourgeoned mainly in Europe and America.Its representatives include Bridget Jones’s Diary in 2001, Legally Blonde in 2001, The Devil Wears Prada in 2006 and Sex and the City in 2008.Even though Chick Flick first rooted in European and American area, its wave has been spreading to the whole world.Especially in China, Chick Flick is a hit topic for films.When the first chick flick Sophie’s Choice, directed by Jin Yimeng, attracted so many audiences, it led to a chain reaction that more and more chick flicks, such as Go Lala Go!, Love Is Not Blind, Finding Mr. Right, Tiny times series, One night surprise, Girls, Woman Who Flirt and Meet Miss Anxiety have been made to satisfy women’s long-depressed lusts.These chick flicks used a low budget and won over millions audiences.Chick flick has a unique living environment under the Chinese new feminism background.This essay mainly focuses on genre film, new feminism and the ethics it reflects, and analysesthe reason why this humorous funny type of film can get so many attentions from city girls.There are three stages for this essay.Firstly, it is going to research the background and the origin of chick flick and study chick flick under the guide of genre film and new feminism. Secondly, it is going to research the developing process in China and analyse how Chinese style chick flicks reflect the unique Chinese society.Finally, the essay is going to compare the chick flicks in other countries and the chick flicks in China, find the gap between them and point out a possible way for the future.Chick flick has won itself a new type of film by virtue of its unique way of story-telling, character modeling and screen shooting.Every story of the female character in a chick flick and the story line reflect the core value of the contemporary young Chinese people pursuing their love, career and life.
