This paper discusses the problems confronted by the present author in translating the first five chapters of Winning Images (1977,2nd edition) written by Robert Shook, a famous American entrepreneur. The problems are divided into lexical and syntactic levels, with the former composed of the discrimination and confirmation of words’ meanings, the adjustments of words’ collocation, conversion of parts of speech, the concretization of the abstract or vague meanings of words and the translation of culture-specific words, and the later mainly focused on the translation of long sentences. Context is the environment on which the linguistic performance relies, and plays an important role in the utilization and understanding of languages and the results of communication. Through the discussion and analysis of the problems met in translation practice, the present author tries putting forward the corresponding solutions from the perspective of contextualization.
