Research On The First Person Narrative Strategy In Gu Changwei’s Films

Gu Changwei,who is hailed as "the first photographer in China", together with Lv Le, Hou Yong, are known as " the three eyes of Chinese films".He has won the Golden Rooster Award, the Golden Horse Award and the Kodak Photography Award of Hawaii International Film Festival, and he not only has been shortlisted in the sixty-six Oscar Award, but also won the title "100 outstanding photographers in a century". Due to the excellent photographic technology, now he becomes a film director. Since 2005, he had directed three movies, including Peacock, And the Spring Comes and Love for Life. These excellent movies welcomed a majority of audience and caused great repercussions. Gu changwei, who is good at narration, has told three different stories in all his movies with "the first person narrative" strategy. Therefore, it is very necessary to explore the specific narrative strategies in his movies, related to the Film Narratology.This paper not only uses the literature research method to understand the history of the Film Narratology and the previous research situation, but also uses the quantitative analysis method to study the narrative structure of Gu Changwei’s movies, and then makes a comparison between the narrative space and the time of narration, using the case analysis method for specific film research. The title of this paper is "the First Person Narrative Strategy in Gu Changwei’s Movies". It is based on the perspective of the Film Narratology, and use the first person narrative strategy as the research breakthrough point, in order to explore the specific setting of the first person narrative strategy, and then to make a comprehensive and systematic analysis about the film’s narrative structure and the unique narrative time and space. Based on all these analysis of the effects and function of the first person narrative strategy in Gu Changwei’s films, we can summarize its unique narrative strategy.
