Selected Stories of Lu Xun contains 13 popular articles that LuXun produces at different times, such as A Madman’s Diary (《狂人日记》), KongYiji (《孔乙己》) and so on. Because of the unique theme, profound ideas, Lu Xun’s works have a significant impact on the history of modern Chinese literature. In the process of globalization, many countries develop their cultural soft power to promote the national culture output. Therefore, the study on the translation of Lu Xun’s works is helpful to promote the spread of Lu Xun’s works and Chinese culture. There are numerous studies on the translation of Lu Xun’s works which varied from articles to Lu Xun’s thoughts and lots of results have been achieved. However, researchers pay more attention on the English translation of Yang Xianyi’s and William A. Lyell’s, few studies for other important translators, such as Chi-Chen Wang and Julia Lovell.By the literature, comparison, case study, the thesis comparative analyzes the two typical English translation of Selected Stories of Lu Xun of Yang Xianyi’s version and Julia Lovell’s version based on three basic principles of the Functionalist Skopos Theory:skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule. In the Functionalist Skopos theory, translation is a behavioral activity with a purpose. Therefore, all translations must follow the purpose of the translation firstly. However, the purpose of each translation version influenced by many factors and from this perspective, if the translation achieves the intended purpose of translator could become an important evaluation criterion to translation quality.Through the analysis and study, on the one hand, this thesis provides some theoretical enlightenments and methods for the translation of Lu Xun’s works and its English translation studies. On the other hand, since 1920s, Lu Xun’s works have been translated into many languages and loved by readers. So the study on the translation of Lu Xun’s works has practical significance.
