Practice Study Report On E-C Translation Of Air Quality Assessment (Excerpt)

This English-Chinese translation project is a practice study report based on the scientific text Air Quality Assessment. The theoretical guidance of the report is theory of text typology, belonging to Functional Translation Theory. The theory of text typology supports that text type is the main point to choose different translation methods; while Equifunctional translation, which emphasizes the equivalence of text function between source language text (SLT) and target language text (TLT), is the strategic guidance of the translation practice in order to reproduce the information of the SLT. By discussing the problems encountered in the process of translation and providing the solution, the author can broaden the knowledge of environment science and deepen the translation methods and techniques for the text of scientific report, providing reference for later study to solve the same kind of problems.The translation report is divided into five parts. Chapter One gives a brief introduction to the SLT and the significance of the project. Chapter Two discusses the translation process, including preparation before translating, analysis of language features of the SLT and difficulties occurring in the translation process. Chapter Three gives an overview of Functional Translation Theory, determining the guidance for the selection of translation strategy and methods according to the text typology theory. Chapter Four focuses on the methods and techniques used in the process to solve the difficulties. And the last part summarizes the practice study report by elaborating enlightenment and experiences received in the translation process.
