A Report On The English-Chinese Translation Of Human-Centered Data Science:An Introduction(Excerpts)

The translation practice report is based on the English-Chinese translation practice of Human-Centered Data Science: An Introduction(excerpts).As a scientific text,this book introduces the emergence and development of human-centered data science from a professional point of view.This translation practice,responding to the domestic human-centered concept of science,is intended to introduce the new knowledge of human-centered data science to China and it will help to promote the further popularization of human-centered data science in China.This translation practice report is divided into five parts: introduction,task description,process description,case analysis and conclusion.It describes the translation practice process,findings and results from multiple perspectives.In the case analysis part,the translator chooses to explore the translation strategies of scientific text from lexical,syntactic and discourse perspectives under the guidance of Reiss’ text type theory and proposes corresponding solutions.The main findings are as follows: Firstly,as an informative text,the source text involves domain knowledge of data science.For words with different specialties,they could be processed by word meaning selection and transformation in combination with data science field;secondly,technical texts are usually described from an objective perspective,thus,division and adding subject are needed in the translation of passive and long and complex sentences;thirdly,the logic meaning is obvious in the source text,and it is necessary to add the logic linking words to make logic explicit.Therefore,in informative text translation,it is essential to keep the accuracy and faithful of source text and adhere to the target readers orientation.This translation practice demonstrates the significance of Reiss’ text type theory in guiding informative texts,and also helps the translator to improve her translation skills while gaining a preliminary understanding of human-centered data science.The translation is focusing on accurately conveying the information of the source text in translation.It could be ensured that the target text meets the relevant professional needs,and could provide some reference for translations in the field of human-centered data science.
