The original Now It Can Be Told is a documentary memoir. Philip Gibbs was one of the five official reporters of United Kingdom during the First World War. The work mainly deals with the author’s experiences as a war correspondent, especially some of reports which are not allowed at that time. The work is of great realistic significance, warning people about the savagery of the war. Since all the content of the work derived from the writer’s diary and manuscript when he was a war correspondent, it has vivid description and true feelings.Translation practice report is based on the extract of its first chapter, introducing the writer, main idea and the language characteristics of the work, and then, study about the translation process and the translation techniques and methods through the analysis of the specific cases. The documentary memoir has the characteristics of authenticity and subjectivity, so the faithful translation principle is crucial for such kind of text. The writer prefers to use logical and long sentences which are dealt with techniques like detachment, inversion, conversion, negation and so on in the report. Finally, this paper discusses about the conclusion and experiences of the translation practice.Through this translation practice, the translator gets a deeper insight about characteristics and translation techniques of this kind of text. Meanwhile, some beneficial attempts of translation techniques have been carried out and been summarized, providing guidance and bedding for other similar texts.
