self-esteem is an individual emotion and cognitive component in the self-system, which is the whole assessment on their own capabilities, value and the resulting feelings. A large number of studies have found that self-esteem is the core of mental health. It has an important influence on the development of individual personality. In recent years the study of the relationship between self-esteem and mental health has caught more eyes on pedagogy and psychology.This study selected 611 junior middle school students as the object from three middle schools at three districts in Shanghai. Use SES and MHT to explore the datum of junior middle school students’ self-esteem and mental health. It has three purposes. Firstly,realize the situation of junior middle school students. Secondly, explore the relationship between self-esteem and mental health in junior high school students. Thirdly,explore positive psychology tropistic group mental health lesson on junior middle school students’ self-esteem and mental health The main research conclusions are as follows: 1 junior middle school students of the overall level of self-esteem are in average. Mental health overall situation is good, but there are large differences among individuals. 2 Self-esteem level and the overall level of mental health in junior middle school students exist significant differences in gender. That is to say boys’ level of self-esteem and mental health were dramatically better than girls. 3 There are significant differences among grades in self-esteem level,especially in Grade seven. From average level, the highest one is Grade seven, and the lowest one is Grade nine. Grade six and Grade eight are the second and third respectively. But there are no differences in different grades in the whole level of mental health. 4 There are no significant differences among the one-child and without one-child in the overall level of self-esteem and mental health in each dimensions. 5.There is significant negative correlation among levels of self-esteem and mental health and mental health overall level. Which tended to loneliness, remorse, impulsiveness, physical symptoms of the four factors of self-esteem have significant negative prediction function. 6.The Experimental group was significantly higher than the control group in self-esteem after intervention, but there is no significant difference in mental health.
