Local Characteristics And Cultural Background Of Wanrong Jokes

Wanrong Jokes like a kind of humorous flower is created in Wanrong County, which is the wisdom of Wanrong people.As a local folk literature, Wanrong Jokes is carrying local humanistic spirit with strong regional style. It is a kind of humorous culture as well as a link between Wanrong people. In Recent years, by the development of intangible cultural heritage, the government of Wanrong County makes effort in protection and development of Wanrong Jokes, collects and publishes several books of Wanrong Jokes, makes industrial development and creates a series of jokes, so as to make Wanrong Jokes are known by Chinese people and are familiar by more and more people.In this paper, we discuss four aspects of Wanrong Jokes, that is, background, features, functions and protection. First of all, it makes analysis of geographical background and humanistic background to explore its nature of locality; then it make analysis by theories of rural sociology, folklore, folklore literature, aesthetics and narratology to explore the feature of farming culture, new changes in new era and humorous technique, so as to illustrate its unique character; thirdly, it discusses Wanrong Joke’s social value by relevant theoretical analyses of folk literature, folklore and sociology, to explain its value of entertainment, edutainment and revealing; at last, it analyzes conservation status and development by theories of intangible cultural heritage, folk literature, economics, and localism, to explore merit and demerit and give two personal suggestions, namely industrial development keeping a foothold of traditional culture and keeping localism of Wanrong Jokes, so as to hold features of vitality and dynamic functions.The creating point includes two aspects. Firstly, it does multi-angle and full analyses of Wanrong Jokes by method of cross-disciplines. Secondly, it makes a comparative analysis of Wanrong Jokes in different era, to illustrate its farming culture and new humorous context in background of the reform and opening-up policy, in another word, a confused and ignorant status in the background of confliction between villagers in rural area and modern culture, such as being unfamiliar with modern technology and misunderstanding urban laws and regulations.
