The Study On The Influence Of American Pop Culture On Chinese Youths

The thesis is mainly talking about the influence of American pop culture on Chinese youths. The main purpose of the thesis is to provide a reasonable view of diverse cultures for Chinese. In order to make a clear point, a typical example of American pop culture has been selected for further study—a clothing brand, “Abercrombie and Fitch”. Before the analysis of the topic, reasons for this research have been presented firstly. Since there exists a trend of Chinese youths being much keener on American pop culture rather than the native ones, it is important to figure out the reasons behind. Therefore, the significance of this essay is to explore how American pop culture influences Chinese youths and then reasonable analysis and suggestions can be put forward.Then an empirical study is carried out for data collection. Three categories of youths both from the U.S and China are selected in doing questionnaires, interviews and discussion for presenting their attitudes towards the brand “A&F”, testing their sense of national cultures. According to the case study, the essay concludes that American pop culture has already made deep influence on Chinese in several ways, mainly involving identity establishment and values construction. To be specific, Chinese youths seem to be impacted by gender identity, cultural identity, economic values and aesthetic values from western countries, which are seldom mentioned in China.Finally, the conclusions have been put forward in three parts. There should be the classes designed for native culture heritage that calls for the awareness of the importance of Chinese pop culture, such as Kungfu and Peking Opera. Then families and the society should take the responsibility for enhancing the position of Chinese pop culture on the world stage. Also Chinese youths themselves have to establish a sensible view of diverse cultures with correct guidance.
