Huangpu ancient village is located in the east of Haizhu District of Guangzhou city, north near the Pearl River, South near Huangpu Chung, facing Changzhou Island,whose waterway transportation is convenient. From twenty-two years of Qianlong(1757) to twenty-two Daoguang years(1842), Huangpu old port nearby the village has once become the only trading port in Guangzhou even the whole states and the fortress of the Silk Road, prosperous temporarily. With the arrival of a large number of foreign investors as well as the prosperity and development of foreign trade,various business activities adapted to Huangpu ancient village and the ancient port of foreign trade were growing prosperity, which marked the foreign trade on Huangpu ancient village culture. However, nowadays a lot of material cultural heritage of Huangpu ancient village like the ancient port, ancient ancestral temple, ancient houses,arches etc, and non-material cultural heritage like celebrities’ stories, Pak Tai faiths,the concepts of village layout etc, are often forgotten and destructed in rural tourism boom. Based on this, by analyzing the evolution and function of traditional culture represented by ancestral temple and faiths in Huangpu ancient village during its development process, the author combines with the practical demands of village tourism development and protection to find out several methods and means to protect traditional culture of Huangpu ancient village and hopes to make a modest contribution.The thesis has five chapters in all. The first chapter makes an introduction of the raise of the issue, the research significance, the research review about ancient villages and ancient village tourism, the research methods applied and research process. The second chapter introduces the geographic ecology and general situation of humanity and society of Huangpu ancient village, and puts emphasis on the impact of foreign trade activities on village humanities. The third chapter elaborates how the ancestral temple culture has an effect in the development of ancient village and realizes its own evolution in the tourism context from three aspects as follows: the ancestral lineage patterns and distribution of ancestral temple, the traditional function of ancestral temple culture, the modern transformation of the ancestral temple culture. The fourth chapter makes a detailed thick description of the Pak Tai faiths ritual, and explainshow the Pak Tai faiths integrates village cultures under the tourism context. The fifth chapter combines the village tourism development and the real needs of protection,bases on the protection and evolution of traditional culture of ancient village, put forward highly concrete methods and countermeasures.The traditional culture of Huangpu ancient village influenced by foreign trade plays a role of “invisible hand” in the development of ancient village. Although some functions have been lost, but some of new added in to meet the needs of tourism.Meanwhile, traditional culture consciousness of ancient village, proposes its own demands of development and protection of tourism. Only can grasp the essence of traditional culture evolution and the positive interaction between conservation and tourism achieve sustainable development of both.The thesis mainly uses the field research method, literature analysis method,combined with some methods of ecology, history, anthropology and other related disciplines.
