This paper offers an analysis of the images of "small potatoes" in the novels related to Soviet’s Union’s Great Patriotic War. According to the commonality and individuality of the characters in the novels of different times, it also presents a comparative analysis of the typical image system of "small potatoes" in the novels. The images of "small potatoes" explained in this paper involve the ordinary soldiers, subordinate officers, common people, deserters and traitors. Concerning the historical background of the Soviet Union and the three tides in the war literature of Soviet Union, this paper aims at expounding on the images of "small potatoes" in the war, the products of the coexistence and competition of heroism and humanism, analyzing the reasons for the different attitudes towards war and life in various times and the uniqueness of the image of "small potatoes" in the novels related to the Soviet Union’s Great Patriotic War, recognizing the special status of "small potatoes" in the novels and setting forth the social significance of the development and changes of "small potatoes" in different times from the perspectives of tragedy and solemnity under the influence of heroism, the small potatoes’ reflection on war under humanism and the images of "small potatoes" under the influence of social environment, national characters and literature ideological trend.Besides the Introduction and Conclusions, this paper offers a detailed analysis in the other three chapters. The first chapter mainly analyzes the "small potatoes" rushing to the battlefield and fighting for their country and nation at the cost of their lives under the influence of revolutionary heroism after the outbreak of the Great Patriotic War of the Soviet Union, sets forth the brave warriors and the images of female "small potatoes" with particular significance and sums up the their tragedies as well as their reflections on the war; the second chapter investigates the images of "small potatoes" in slaughtering and humanity conflicts and the images of deserters and traitors on the verge of terror and death so as to reveal their introspection on the reality of war and significance of life; the third chapter clarifies the characteristics of the "small potatoes" under the influence of unique social environment and literary argument as well as its reason, values and significance.
