Motivation is one of the crucial factors that influence success of foreign language learning,which plays a vital role in influencing students' participation,self-consciousness,enthusiasm and persistence.While there are not only positive factors affecting foreign language learning behavior,but also negative forces.People call it “demotivation”.Demotivations are common in the English learning process of junior high school students in China,and have had many adverse effects on their English learning.Therefore,this study is devoted to investigating and studying the demotivations of English learning for junior high school students.It aims to explore the factors affecting the demotivation of junior high school students' English learning,and to study the differences between students at different levels in the negative factors of English learning demotivation.The relationship between demotivation in English learning and their English scores.In this study,311 junior high school students were surveyed for their demotivation to learn English,and SPSS 17.0 was used to conduct statistics and analysis on the questionnaires recovered.At the same time,this study also interviewed six English teachers,and conducted a qualitative analysis of the interview results.This study has drawn the following conclusions through questionnaires and interviews:1.There is a general demotivation in junior high school students' English learning process,and their English learning demotivation is more serious;2.The main factors influencing English learning demotivation of junior high school students are as follows: teacher factors,students themselves factors,social environment factors,and textbook factors,learning environment factors.Among them,the students think that their own problems are the biggest reason for the demotivation in English learning,and the “teacher factors” that have been considered by many other researchers to have the greatest impact have been the smallest in this survey.3.By comparing the classes at different levels,the author finds that they have great differences in the attribution of learning environment factors.Moreover,the students with higher levels of grades attribute the English learning demotivation to internal factors,but lower.students in the hierarchical class are mostly attributed to external factors.4.The author analyzed the English learning demotivation and the score through SPSS.17.0 software and found out the deeper the motivation,the worse the English score.Finally,this study suggested that junior middle school English teachers should carry out effective teacher-student interactions more,and students should use effective English learning strategies and build self-efficacy.I hope that this study will help junior high school English teachers and students deal with the demotivation in English teaching and learning.
