Symbol is the media how people know the world, is a kind of material means to express the thoughts and feelings. There is the principles of semiotics in the design of which we daily cotact with, such as the distinctive creative expression of words, colorful graphic style, various material texture and widely used form of law. So the process of print advertisemental design is a precess of signifying designers’ ideas and concepts. From the perspective of semiotics, graphic design is an orderly system of symbols. Graphic symbols,as a symbolic elements of symbolic system of print advertisement, can more Intuitivly,visually and accuratly transfer the information topeople. At the same time, it plays an important role in the aspects of understanding the culture and information and sharing the emotion. Therefore, it needs our multi-angle analysis and rational thinking of the relationship between print advertisemental design and semiotics. This article starts from the basic principles of semiotics, combines communication and design science to explaining the question of graphic symbols of print advertisemental design, which is under the point of view of semiotics. This article use some examples to analyze the question how to characterize and refer to graphic symbols. Also this article analyse the ideographic and paraphrase of graphic symbols to convey the meaning.
