With the constant progress of teaching Chinese as a second language, the development of the teaching material has become a necessity. One kind of comprehensive teaching is the progress of audio-visual teaching, but it is not ideal. Because there are not many successful teaching material that can truly fulfill the demand of audio-visual courses, most universities do not provide audio-visual courses. The audio-visual material for Chinese as a second language is a new style of teaching material which uses modern multimedia technology and its aim is to train students in their listening and speaking abilities. It can solve the problem of the uninteresting class, and turn the class into a vivid and active learning environment. Furthermore, it can fulfill the basic principles of teaching material compilation. It is extremely important to enhance the ability of students to use the language for audio-visual teaching. Students can combine the image and the sound, and then put them into their brain, after the brain processes the information they can speak out. This method can make teachers become more enthusiastic about their teaching, make students more enthusiastic about their learning and provide the classroom with more fun. This requires the teaching material of Chinese as a second language to pick up some appropriate topics. These topics should be related to daily communication, and should contain these three aspects: timeliness, practical applicability and be interesting. At the same time there also needs a combination of the exercises after class in order to consolidate the knowledge that has been learned.Based on the basis of the basic principles of textbook compilations and the related theories(Education, Psychology, Learning theory), analysis was completed in six areas from these two sets of teaching materials: Family Album U.S.A and Hello Beijing. Part 1: compiling concept analysis, from the comparison of the compiling background and selection of teaching materials; Part 2: compilation style analysis, from the comparison of external compilation style and internal compilation style, thus making some suggestion for the compilation structure; Part 3: text analysis, the analysis of text topics, and the text quantities with reflected problems; Part 4: word analysis, the analysis of word quantities and modes of presentation; Part 5: annotation analysis, the analysis of annotations quantities and their explanations; Part 6: exercise analysis, the analysis of exercise types and quantities to enhance the level students’ self-checking abilities.
