Social donations to universities is one of the important financing channels of western universities, between the medieval universities in England and the social donations to universities is tightness. In my thesis, social donations to universities is that the donator who is including church, monastery, kings, nobility and other estates, is will to give his property to poor scholars during 13 th to 17 th century. There are two periods during the history of social donations to universities. Firstly, from 13 th to the early 15 th century is the first period. In this period, church is the most important donator than others. Benefices are the mainstream. About half of the universities populations in England rely upon the benefices. At the same time, there are secular donations which is provided by kings and secular nobility in the universities. Someone who are poor looking for other ways.Secondly, from the late 15 th century to the early 17 th century is the second period. In the period, the benefices are reducing gradually, and church donations is gradually fading away. At the same time, secular donations is rising. However, social donations is no longer so important compared with 13 th century. Along with the development of social donations to universities, it begins more and more institutionalization. With the development of social donations to universities, the university languages and curriculums are changing, universities population is more and more, everyone has more opportunities than ever. However, nobilities’ education resources are increasingly day by day.
