Research On The Image Of Doctor In Ming And Qing Fictions

Birth, old age, sickness and death, the eternal topic of human, are appeared frequently in literature. To some extent the doctor decides one’s life and death, his life sketch can be read in medical case, history bibliography and novel, especially the novel shapes ampel image of doctor. Ming and Qing dynasties are the peak of creating ancient fiction. The Ming and Qing fiction was like a colorful gallery of characters, which emphasized the life of merchant, chivalrous person and woman with jealousy, and also successfully shaped some unimportant persons images like doctors. The thesis made reference to the notes, miscellaneous and historical materials, and furtherly made a research to the image of doctors in Ming and Qing fictions.This thesis has three parts. The first part is an introduction, which introduce the research situation, characteristics, research scope and methods of the doctor image in Ming and Qing fictions.The second part is the main body of this thesis, which is divided into three chapters. Chapter One discusses the types of doctors in novels of Ming and Qing Dynasties. On the background of the religious cultural variety, there are Confucian doctors, Buddhist doctors and Taoist doctors. The Confucion doctors mark imperical examination system, Buddhist doctors and Taoist doctor get be secular. According to the multivariate way of studying medicine, there are doctors who inherited familial medical skill and prescription, those who taught by others, and those who studied medicine by themselves or never learned it. Under the other classification standards, there are imperial physicians, doctors in folk and women doctors. Chapter two analyses the doctor’s image characteristics in Ming and Qing fictions. The thesis analyses the features from the traditional medical skill and medical ethics perspective first trying to make a vivid image contrast in the some perspective, and then states the doctor’s special favor in practice and personality out of practice from another perspective. Chapter three illustrates the doctor’s image in Ming and Qing fictions in three-dimensional and practical method. By contrast of the image before Ming dynasties, the thesis further analyses the three-dimensional image in Ming and Qing fictions and discussed the reason of generating negative image of the doctor in particular. Characters in fictions can be found in real life, so the image of doctor has profound practical significance. It reflects the living state of doctors and highlights the social problems in Ming and Qing.The third section is conclusion, which summarizes the above contents and point out the significance of the interdisciplinary discussion of medical science and literature. By doing researth on the doctor image of Ming and Qing dynasties, we can learn about the medical system of Ming and Qing. The words and deeds of Ming and Qing doctors also have an effect on the modern doctors.
