Study On Al-Ghazali’s Sufi Ethics Thought

As an authority in the history of Islamic thought, Ghazali has great influence on the change of Islamic culture, so Ghazali enjoys a title called "the person who guide the millennium renaissance". However, Ghazali can be seen as a prodigy and versatile person in the circle of Islamic thought because of his literary talent and forensic skills, his ethics also acquires attentions from the study of ethics, and the relevant monographs has been published in foreign countries. Furthermore, Ghazali’s Islamic mystical ethics thought(sufi ethics thought) also acquires some attentions from Ghazali’s researchers, although there has no given monographs, but Ghazali’s researchers has arranged some chapters about sufi ethics in their monographs. Islamic mystical ethics is an important part of al-Ghazali’s Ethics. First, we analyzes the development of sufi ethics before Ghazali, in order to do some groundwork for Ghazali’s ethics, and then have a brief introduction to Ghazali’life and his Sufi Way, and analyzes the key elements of his Islamic mystical ethics and origin of his sufi thought. The main part of the paper is around the practice and spirit, analysis the sufi ethics thought of Ghazali. In terms of morality, focuses on Islamic ethics, especially of Five Duties, Profession of faith, Prayer, Fasting, Charity, Pilgrimage, around this five aspects we are discussed the research content, in order to stress the inner nature, spirituality and personal morality were important in the public ethic. In the discussion of private morality, we around Ghazali’s "The Book of Constructive Virtues of Ihya Ulum-ld-Din ",main talk about the ethical significance of the stages of Sufi practice, in this place, we stress the aspect of it’s internalization and disposition. But in the discussion, we although main study the private morality and it’s internalization, the same time, we also stressed the importance of public morals. On the whole, sufi-ethical of Ghazali is a system combination of public ethic and personal morality, emotional and rational, internal and external. The last part, focuses on the relationship between Sufism and current academic research. We were mainly discussed the relationship between Sufi ethics and global ethics, dialogue among civilizations. Proposed that ethics needs to be Combination of emotional and rational, and stress the importance of the practice in the ethics, we should establish a global vision, to promote academic freedom and strengthen cultural exchanges.
