Research On Chounin Culture

Throughout the Japan Cultural History, from Aristocratic Culture, Samurai Culture to Chounin Culture, the person in charge of culture changed accordingly. Since the Edo Period, the economic strength of Chounin was rapidly increasing and exceed the Samurai. However, influenced by Confucianism physiocracy, the social class of Chounin is at the bottom, despised by the Samurai. The obvious opposition of reality, lead Chounin to persuit the progress not only in the social status, but also in the cultural and ideological field, In this context, Chounin Culture emerged as the times require.Compared Aristocratic Culture and Samurai Culture, Chounin Culture was closer to the lives of ordinary people, vividly demonstrated characteristic and sensibility of Chounin. Chounin Culture have a significant effect on life attitude, behavior, entertainment, aesthetic consciousness of contemporary Japanese. This paper focuses on Chounin Culture’s trait, the historical and ideological significance. Research methods are:literature analysis, transi-disipline study and comparative study.This paper mainly consists of four chapters:Chapter one concerns about the formation and development of Chounin and Chounin Culture, to explore the growth process and ideological origin, In addition, on the basis of in-depth study on the development history of Japan Culture, analysis the affect from Aristocratic Culture and Samurai Culture.Chapter two focuses on the ideological transformation of Chounin Culture. This part firstly analysis the thought manifestation of ancient Japanese literature search and influence of Chounin thought around the debate on Confucianism and ancient Japanese literature search. And then this paper discusses about Chounin’s unique psychology. Lastly, summarize the ethics code of modern Chounin.Chapter three focuses on Chounin’s artistic expression, In this part, the author analysis characteristics of Chounin Culture by listing representative things about three parts including literature, painting and crosstalk. It can be seen from this chapter that characteristics of Chounin Culture are the root of some Japanese national character.Chapter four focuses on architecture life of Chounin Culture. The author summarize the influence of modern Japan through analyzing Chounin’s cultural characteristics including Chounin’s architecture and Chounin’s life.All in all, Chounin Culture is a Independent culture emerging from bottom to up, it changes the subject of the culture, which was always dominated by ruling class. It is rooted in common people real life, this makes it a real meaning of Japanese culture. Chounin Culture consist of the following main characteristics:frank and casual, hedonism and decadent, free and emotional. And those characteristics make a far-reaching implications to the Japanese national character. Chounin Culture valuable historical, social on later generations of Japanese Society.
