Innovative Research Of Leather Art’s Creative Thought And Forms Of Expression

Leather art, mainly refers to a craft or an art form which use the natural leather as amaterial/carrier and hand techniques as the main creative means. Recent years, Leather art isincreasingly showing a strong artistic innovation in China and known by more and more people.But we do not have a clear definition for the concept and scope; also there is not enoughattention and systematic research for this kind of art form. The author’s research is based oncurrent development trend of Chinese leather art, then go beyond with in-depth studying andpracticing of creative exploration. Meanwhile, the author is attempting to combine the form ofthe large mural art with leather art, which is to show the new style and feature of leather craftapplied to the fine art field.Most of our current research and papers have focused on the study of minority leatherproductions and traditional manual carving techniques, while comprehensive researches onutilization of leather in more styles of art have been overlooked. Concentrating on variousformats of leather art creation, the author did a lot of research in the evolving history oftechniques. And at the same time, comparing and analyzing innovative thinking from differentareas and nations are also included in this paper. The ultimate goal is guiding future leather artcreation with theoretical conclusion derived from comprehensive and systematic collection ofdata. First, starting from the background of leather technique, the author systematically arrangedthe evolving history of traditional techniques and works of contemporary leather artists and thenanalyzed the feature, artistic expression and application value of handmade leather techniques.Secondly, the author discussed the development in multi fields of contemporary leather art byanalyzing its creative thinking and presentation approach on the basis of innovative crossoversegment. At last, with the assist of multi-angle and segment-crossing studying and applying of leather art, the author created a mural with features of stereoscopic sensation, timely and artistic.This work puts an emphasis on ‘meaningful form’, which makes a certain contribution to thestudy of new leather art in this era.
