| Kenneth Grahame is an outstanding British writer, who is famous for his greatachievement in Children Literature. He was born in Edinburgh in March8,1859. Grahame isvery fond of nature, and this exactly lays a foundation for his creative work of the animalfiction. In1908, Grahame edited and published the masterpiece of The Wind in the Willows,which is based on the stories of a mole that he has ever told his only son. The story mainlytells that the various experiences between an arrogant toad and his friends. With the help ofhis friends and his own adventures, he changed his character and got back his lost palace, andlived happily with his good friends forever.It promptly becomes a household book as soon as it was printed and becomes thebeloved reading of British children for one generation after another. The Winds in the Willowsis said to be the grand finale of the golden age of British children literature. This is not onlybecause its intricate and interesting plot, more importantly, because its detailed and elegantwritten style which is the genuine style of British prose. Its description of nature is abundantand smooth,and also rich in philosophy. On one hand, the thesis analyzes its language featuresfrom the aspects of phonetic, words and rhetorical levels based on the stylistic in order toshow the unique literary charm of The Wind in the Willows through thorough analysis; on theother hand, the thesis chooses two different Chinese translation versions to analyze. By theanalysis of its different translations on the words, sentences and rhetorical levels, we can drawa conclusion on the general translation strategies of children literature.The thesis is divided into five chapters,including introduction, three chapters of mainbody and conclusion. Chapter one briefly introduces Kenneth Grahame and his book of TheWind in the Willows and generalizes the main idea of the thesis.Chapter two analyzes the features of the language use in this book, starting from thestylistics, mainly analyzing its phonetic, words and rhetorical methods.Chapter three is mainly make a comparison between two different translation versions ofthe above mentioned languages in order to explore the translation strategies of childrenliterature. Chapter four analyzes in details that how to translate the children literature, especiallythe animal fiction through the analysis of the translation strategies of The Wind in the Willows.Chapter five concludes the whole thesis. From the study on language features of TheWind in the Willows and the discussion about translation strategies of children literature, wehope to scan the translation of children literature in a new angle, meanwhile, to provide somereferences for further translation of children literature. |
