Children’s literature has always been an indispensable part of literature. However, it was not equally treasured as adult literature and was on the verge of literature until the May Fourth Movement when the theory of child-orientation was put forward. Since then, more and more people have attached importance to children and children’s literature.As the main readers, children are particular in mentality and cognition, and the translation of children’s literature should pay special attention to the perspective of children. Child-orientation provides the best guidance.This thesis at first elaborates on the linguistic characteristics of children’s literature, easy and understandable words, short sentence patterns and strong rhythm. Then a general introduction to child-orientation is made, which includes its content, features, representatives and their thoughts and its guidance to the translation of children’s literature. After the May Fourth Movement, Zhou Zuoren, Luxun, Zheng Zhenduo, Guo Moruo and other Chinese intellectuals formed their thoughts on children’s literature, that is, child-orientation. At last, a discussion on the application of children-orientation to the Chinese version of The Wind in the Willows is made, which mainly embodies its translation strategies and diverse methods. While applying many translation methods, its translation also stresses that domestication predominates over foreignization.Overall, guided by child-orientation, this thesis endeavors to provide reference and guidance to the study of children’s literature translation.
