An Analysis On Mistranslation In The Jen-Chien Tz’u-Hua From The Perspective Of Translator’s Subjectivity

Translator s subjectivity means on the base of taking the source texts intoaccount translators exert their subjective initiative to translate source texts with theircreation. However，considering the differences in regional circumstance, culturalbackground and mode of thinking between the authors of source texts and thetranslators, sometimes it is inevitable for translators to make some mistakes intranslation when comprehending and translating the source texts into target texts withtheir initiative. Consequently, some translated texts are, to some extent, followed bymistranslation, which occurs because of translator s ignorance of the differences incultural connotation, language structure or context between two different languages.Under the guidance of translator s subjectivity theory, the author aims toanalyze mistranslation in the English version Jen-Chien Tz’u-Hua translated byAdele Austin Rickett. Jen-Chien Tz’u-Hua composed by Wang Guowei is regardedas one of the most significant works in the history of Chinese literature, which wasinitially published in the Academic Journal of the Quintessence of Chinese Culture.In the Jen-Chien Tz’u-Hua, Wang Guowei presented his viewpoints on thedevelopment of tz’u in the history of Chinese Poetry as well as the methods of poeticexpression. Accepting western aesthetic ideology, Wang Guowei formed his uniquecritical style in his literature work Jen-Chien Tz’u-Hua, which produces far-reachingeffects on not only Chinese literary criticism, but also the world literary criticism.However, as it contains a considerable number of cultural information, translating itinto English is rather difficult. Under the circumstances, mistranslation eveninevitably appears.Given current research results, based on translator s subjectivity theory theauthor intends to analyze mistranslation in the Jen-Chien Tz’u-Hua translated byAdele Austin Rickett with the purposes to help target readers have a correct andbetter understanding of it as well as communicate traditional Chinese culture.
