"Traduttore Traditore." This world-renowned Italian idiom means translator is betrayer or traitor. Based on the words, the scholars at home and abroad believe that it speaks volumes of the embarrassing position of translator and translated text. French scholar puts forward the concept of creative treason and Chinese scholar holds the view that creative treason is the nature of literary translation. Is this appropriate? On the contrary, the nature of literary translation should be creative faithfulness. In order to prove it, creativity or the translator's subjectivity should be analyzed.This paper applies the basic notions of Hans-Georg Gadamer's Modern Philosophical Hermeneutics and Hans Robert Jauss and Wolfgang Iser's Aestheticsof Reception--prejudice, fusion of horizon, horizon of expectation, dialogues andreading principle--to study, in literary translation, the subjective initiative oftranslator's subjectivity on the basis of cultural mistranslation in Turbulence by Jia Pingwa.In literary translation, owing to the historical interpretation, cultural mistranslation is inevitable. Prejudice indicates that translation is not a simple copying of the source text but a translator's creative treason. That the translator's horizon can never be the same as the author's shows that cultural filtering is indispensable. The translation's readers are not the implied readers of the source text so the horizon of expectation results in translation strategies employed by the translator. The principle of dialogue and reading shows that translation is a conversation among translator, author and readers. It's the translator's purposive work.It argues that the subject of translator is the key element in the subject of translation; translator's subjectivity is not only one of the elements which influence the translation, but the guarantee for the faithfulness of the translation. Translator's faithfulness to the original and its author does not mean that he shouldfollow in the original author's footsteps, repeating every word he writes, but translate with purpose and creativity. The final goal of creativity is to be faithful to the original's idea, content and style. The nature of literary translation should becreative faithfulness.
