A Study Of The Legal Translation From The Perspective Of Context

This paper is a translation report on the sixthchapter of McCarthy on Trademarksand Unfair Competition. The original text is a legal text with its own characteristics,which is about the comparison of trademark, patent and copyright. Furthermore, thisreport, not only provides a translation work, but also summarizes the keys anddifficulties while translating; what is more, it explores translation strategies of legaltext.This report consists of five parts. The first one introduces the project’sbackground and significance. The second part introduces the main idea of the originaltext and theories of context. The third part lists the translation strategies of English forgeneral purpose(EGP) in different contexts. The following part introduces culturalcontext and translation strategies of legal terms. The last part makes a summary oflessons learned and problems to be solved.
