According to Vershueren, language use is a dynamic process of a language userconsciously adapting to context. The contextual adaptability indicates the adaptability tocommunicative context and linguistic context in communicating. Translation is regarded as adynamic process of adaptability to the context of original text and target text. In this paper, theauthor elaborates the application of contextual adaptability to the translation of internationalbusiness contracts.In the first place, the author gives a general introduction of the translation researches oninternational business contract both at home and abroad. Then, the author briefly introducesthe three properties of language: negotiability, variability and adaptability, and the four anglesof adaptability: contextual correlates of adaptability, structural objects of adaptability, salienceof adaption processes and dynamics adaptability, and further discusses the contextualadaptability in detail.After that, the author illustrates the application of contextual adaptability to thetranslation of international business contracts. By presenting some examples, the authordetailedly analyzes the adaptability to the communicative context and linguistic context of theoriginal text and the target readers in the process of translation, including the adaptability tosocial world, physical world, mental world and, and the adaptability to cohesion,intertextuality and sequencing.Finally, the author makes a conclusion, find out some implications and points out thelimitations in this paper.
