A Report On The Interpreting Of The 19^th China-Israel Investment Conference

With globalization picking up pace,on the one hand,China has become an ideal investment destination;on the other hand,many businessmen have come to China seeking cooperation.Either way,interpreters play a vital role in promoting mutual understanding.So it is important for an interpreter to evaluate his/her performance after each task and keep making process.This report elaborates how the author prepares,conducts and reviews a business conference interpreting within the framework of Verschueren's Theory of Linguistic Adaptability.The author was recommended as an interpreter for the 19^th China-Israel Investment Conference?GoforIsrael?.In this report,he reviews his performance during the whole process from the perspective of Verschueren's contextual correlates of adaptability.In the first part,the author describes his interpreting task.The second part reviews the whole process,including acceptance of the interpreting task,preparation for the interpreting task,on-site interpreting and post-interpreting evaluation.The third part lays the theoretical basis of the case analysis.In the fourth part,the author analyzes his performance within the framework of contextual correlates of adaptability.The fifth part is a conclusion of the author's task performance and this report.After the interpreting task,the author finds that the contextual correlates of adaptability can be useful to evaluate his interpreting performance.Through analyzing factors in the mental world,the social world,and the physical world,as well as features of the linguistic context,the author has gained a better understanding of the theory,which would be significantly helpful in his future study.This report also provides a fresh perspective for interpreting students to assess their after-class interpreting performances.Therefore,the author suggests that interpreting students should engage in lots of practice to improve their skills.In writing similar reports,further analysis can be made within the framework of Verschueren's Theory of Linguistic Adaptability.
